The member hospitals of the North Eastern Community Laboratory Alliance (NECLA) are dedicated to providing the highest quality anatomic and clinical pathology services to our patients preferentially utilizing our local medical laboratory resources. Aside from the obvious benefits of faster turnaround times for patients and providers, creating a network of the laboratories already positioned within each hospital allows us to address the regional differences in healthcare provision throughout Vermont and upstate New York.
By working together we are able to support each other through sharing knowledge, expertise and resources. The Covid pandemic was a great example of that willingness to use data driven decision-making and a common desire to make Vermont and upstate New York some of the safest areas in the country in terms of transmission rates. During a recent blood shortage experienced by the American Red Cross, Champlain Valley Physicians’ Hospital. was able to help our members make up some of the short fall through their Blood Donor Program. As a network, our integration with the Vermont Public Health Lab and the New York and Vermont Departments of Health benefits us with infectious disease monitoring and genetic testing for newborns, not to mention population health driven initiatives that bring value across the healthcare continuum in our region.
From the smallest to the largest, each of our members plays a part in ensuring we can deliver laboratory medicine as close to the patient as possible, creating jobs and keeping healthcare dollars local to benefit all of our communities.
